Body of missing South Burlington swimmer in Lake Champlain recovered

The body of a swimmer who had been missing in Lake Champlain since Tuesday was recovered yesterday afternoon.

The swimmer, identified as Todd Anderson of South Burlington, was part of a group of six people in a small boat that planned to travel from Burlington to Shelburne Bay on Tuesday. Some members of the group were swimming when the wind and waves began to increase in intensity.

Several adults jumped into the water to assist a juvenile who was swimming, but struggled in the conditions. One of those adults, identified as David King of South Burlington, was recovered from the lake by first responders and later died in the hospital.

Anderson’s body was discovered Friday afternoon at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the shores of Red Rocks Park. His body was found by the Vermont State Police SCUBA team.
