Fire destroys Pearl Street Beverage in Burlington; cause under investigation

An early-morning fire that swept through Pearl Street Beverage in Burlington inflicted more than $1 million in damages to the building and its contents, according to preliminary estimates by the city’s fire department.

The cause remains under investigation by city and local officials.

No injuries were reported at the incident, which was first reported at 2:12 a.m. Firefighters arrived four minutes later, said Robert Plante, the department’s deputy chief of administration.

Lakeside Pharmacy, the family-owned business that shares the building, suffered smoke damage, Plante said.

Calls to the pharmacy were not picked up during normal business hours Wednesday morning.

Structural damage at the site leaves the future of both businesses in limbo, said Aaron Collette, deputy chief of operations.

But the popular, locally owned source for beer, wine and liquor was effectively “destroyed” by the fire, Collette said.
