Spooky cookies: Vermont bakeries get in the spirit of Halloween

Who says candy is the only sweet treat to be consumed on Halloween? For those with more discriminating tastes and a mature palette, a variety of bakeries are offering frightful and delightful confections.

Hender’s Bake Shop in Waterbury created these cute and tasty arachnids, filled with vanilla cream.

Nunyuns Bakery in Burlington channeled Dรญa de los Muertos with these colorful, sugar skull cupcakes.

I bet you didn’t know how much you wanted a chocolate cyclops donut. Hender’s Bake Shop anticipated you would.

North Country Cakes in Morrisville has created hundreds of these delicately iced ghost and pumpkin cookies with plans to make many more. Get them while you can.

Mother Myrick’s Confectionery in Manchester has jack-o-lantern chocolate pops in your choice of milk or dark chocolate.

Nunyuns Bakery also has an assortment of decorated Halloween sugar cookies including witches, cats, bats and jack-o-lanterns.

Now that your mouth is watering, a trip to your favorite bake shop may be in the cards. If, however, you aren’t able to trek across the state for these delectable goodies, you could take inspiration and create your own.
