Week 2 top performers
August Biggio, S.D. Ireland: Finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle on Sunday, with a pair of doubles, a home run and three RBIs as the Shamrocks rolled past South Burlington 12-2 in six innings.
George Goldsworthy, Essex: A top performer last week too, Goldsworthy kept the hits coming in Week 2. He hit safely in all five Essex games, collecting nine hits in total, paced by his 4-for-4 performance at the plate on Saturday.
Matt Guyette, South Burlington: Spearheading a 3-1 week, Guyette went 6-for-12 at the plate with six RBIs. He also worked a one-inning save to preserve the 8-7 win over Essex and went six strong innings in picking up the 8-3 win over S.D. Ireland.
Saul Minaya, Colchester: The former Laker star had eight hits in four games last week, highlighted by his 2-for-4, four-RBI effort in the 13-4 win over Barre on Friday. Minaya’s performance included a fifth-inning homer at Barre.
Robbie Meslin, Essex: Meslin rocked three home runs last week including a pair of long shots in the first game of a doubleheader vs. Montpelier on Saturday. Meslin went 10-for-17 as Essex captured four out of five games.
Adam Newton, Brattleboro: Newton’s contributions at the plate are noteworthy — five hits, double, four RBIs, three stolen bases — but his defensive work at shortstop, outfield and first base likely secured two wins for Brattleboro, according to coach Eric Libardoni. Brattleboro’s 5-1 week concluded with a pair of narrow nonleague victories at Colchester on Sunday.
Jack Pattison, Brattleboro: Went 5-for-12 in six games with a double, home run, six RBIs and a trio of stolen bases for the 2019 Legion state champions.
Aubrey Ramey, Lakes Region: Ramey fired a no-hitter in Saturday’s 12-0 win over Bellows Falls. In 65 pitches, Ramey walked none and struck out eight batters over five innings. Ramey also had a 3-for-4, two-RBI game earlier in the week.
Sawyer Ramey, Lakes Region: An eight-hit week included a 3-for-4, four-RBI effort in Saturday’s 14-5 victory over Bellows Falls.
Robert Slocum, White River Junction: The former Windsor standout had a busy week to help White River Junction go 5-0. He had an RBI single Tuesday, a two-run single and the win on the mound Wednesday, picked up two more hits Thursday and then came on in relief to toss four scoreless frames in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader as the Junior Nighthawks rallied to cap the unblemished stretch.
